a blockage in the digestive tract that prevents the forward movement of foods and liquids as they are digested. occult blood - blood in the stool that is not visible to the naked eye. ostomy - an operation that is done when there is damage to a section of intestine. It creates an opening in the wall of the abdomen, and brings a portion of intestine through the opening so stool can leave the body.
