| seminal colliculus | An elevated portion of the urethral crest upon which open the two ejaculatory ducts and the prostatic utricle. Synonym: colliculus seminalis, caput gallinaginis, colliculus urethralis, seminal hillock, verumontanum. (05 Mar 2000) |

| superficial gray layer of superior colliculus | See: gray layer of superior colliculus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| superior colliculus | The paired, larger, rounded anterior eminence of the laminae of mesencephalic tectum; major afferent connections of the superficial layers are the retina and striate cortex; input to deep layers of the colliculus are polymodal. Its efferent connections are with the lower brainstem and spinal cord (tectobulbar tract and tectospinal tract) and with the pulvinar and other cell groups in the caudal part of the thalamus; participates in extrageniculate visual pathway. Synonym: colliculus superior, anterior quadrigeminal body, corpus quadrigeminum anterius. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep gray layer of superior colliculus | A layer of myelinated fibres, the deepest layer of the colliculus superior, delimiting the latter from the central gray substance surrounding the cerebral aqueduct. Synonym: stratum album profundum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep white layer of superior colliculus | See: gray layer of superior colliculus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| facial colliculus | Prominent portion of the medial eminence, just rostral to the medullary striae in the rhomboidal fossa; it is formed by the internal genu of the facial nerve and the abducens nucleus around which the facial fibres curve. Synonym: colliculus facialis, abducens eminence, eminentia abducentis, eminentia facialis, facial eminence, facial hillock. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus salivatorius inferior | A group of preganglionic parasympathetic motor neurons located in the reticular formation of the medulla oblongata dorsal to the nucleus ambiguus; its axons leave the brain with the glossopharyngeal nerve and govern secretion from the parotid gland by the intermediary of the ganglion oticum; cells of the inferior and superior nucleus are scattered and overlapping in lateral regions of the reticular formation. Synonym: nucleus salivatorius inferior, inferior salivary nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior olivary nucleus | A large aggregate of small densely packed nerve cells arranged in folded laminae shaped like a purse with the opening (hilum) directed medially. It corresponds in position to the oliva, projects to all parts of the contralateral half of the cerebellar cortex by way of the olivocerebellar tract, and is the only source of cerebellar climbing fibres. Its afferent connections include fibres from the spinal cord, the dentate nucleus and motor cortex, but its major input appears to be the central tegmental tract originating from multiple nuclei at midbrain levels. Synonym: nucleus olivaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior salivary nucleus | A group of preganglionic parasympathetic motor neurons located in the reticular formation of the medulla oblongata dorsal to the nucleus ambiguus; its axons leave the brain with the glossopharyngeal nerve and govern secretion from the parotid gland by the intermediary of the ganglion oticum; cells of the inferior and superior nucleus are scattered and overlapping in lateral regions of the reticular formation. Synonym: nucleus salivatorius inferior, inferior salivary nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior salivatory nucleus | A group of preganglionic parasympathetic motor neurons located in the reticular formation of the medulla oblongata dorsal to the nucleus ambiguus; its axons leave the brain with the glossopharyngeal nerve and govern secretion from the parotid gland by the intermediary of the ganglion oticum; cells of the inferior and superior nucleus are scattered and overlapping in lateral regions of the reticular formation. Synonym: nucleus salivatorius inferior, inferior salivary nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior vestibular nucleus | Nucleus vestibularis inferior. See: vestibular nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior dental branches of inferior dental plexus | Branches passing from the inferior dental plexus to the roots of the teeth of the lower jaw. Synonym: rami dentales inferiores plexus dentalis inferioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior gingival branches of inferior dental plexus | Branches of inferior dental plexus to the gingiva of the lower jaw. Synonym: rami gingivales inferiores plexus dentalis inferioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| abducens nucleus | Nucleus of abducent nervenucleus abducentis, a group of motor neurons in the lower part of the pons, innervating the lateral rectus muscle of the eye; unique among motor cranial nerve nuclei in that it consists of two distinct populations of neurons: neurons that give rise to fibres forming the abducens nerve root and those internuclear neurons whose processes cross the midline, ascend in the opposite medial longitudinal fasciculus, and terminate upon specific oculomotor neurons; considered a primary centre for mechanisms controlling conjugate horizontal gaze. Synonym: nucleus nervi abducentis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| accessory cuneate nucleus | A cell group lateral to the cuneate nucleus which receives posterior-root fibres corresponding to the proprioceptive innervation of the arm and hand; it projects to the cerebellum by way of the cuneocerebellar tract, and can be considered the upper-extremity equivalent of the thoracic nucleus. Synonym: nucleus cuneatus accessorius, external cuneate nucleus, lateral cuneate nucleus, Monakow's nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
