Synonym: musculi intertransversarii mediales lumborum, medial lumbar intertransverse muscles. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nodi lymphatici iliaci externi mediales | See: external iliac lymph nodes. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pedunculus thalami inferior | A large fibre bundle emerging from the anterior part of the thalamus in the ventral direction, in part joining the medial fibres of the internal capsule, in other part curving laterally around the medial margin of the capsule into the innominate substance. Many of its fibres establish a reciprocal connection of the mediodorsal nucleus of the thalamus with the orbital gyri of the frontal lobe, but numerous other fibres constitute a conduction system from the amygdala and olfactory cortex to the mediodorsal nucleus. See: ansa peduncularis. Synonym: pedunculus thalami inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pedunculus thalami lateralis | The massive group of fibres that emerges from the laterodorsal side of the thalamus to join the corona radiata; it reciprocally connects the lateral nucleus and the geniculate bodies of the thalamus with the corresponding regions of the cerebral cortex. Synonym: pedunculus thalami lateralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pedunculus thalami ventralis | The massive system of fibre bundles emerging through the ventral, lateral, and anterior borders of the thalamus to join the internal capsule and parts of the corona radiata; it contains the fibres reciprocally connecting the ventral thalamic nuclei with the precentral and postcentral gyri of the cerebral cortex. Synonym: pedunculus thalami ventralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| stria medullaris thalami | A narrow, compact fibre bundle that extends along the line of attachment of the roof of the third ventricle to the thalamus on each side and terminates posteriorly in the habenular nucleus. It is composed of fibres originating in the septal area, the anterior perforated substance, the lateral preoptic nucleus, and the medial segment of the globus pallidus. Synonym: stria medullaris thalami, stria fornicis, stria ventriculi tertii. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus arcuatus thalami | The small ventral region of the ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus in which the fibres of the gustatory lemniscus and secondary trigeminal tracts terminate; it projects to the lower part of the postcentral gyrus of the cerebral cortex. Synonym: arcuate nucleus, nucleus arcuatus thalami, nucleus arcuatus, semilunar nucleus of Flechsig, thalamic gustatory nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus centralis lateralis thalami | The most lateral of the intralaminar nuclei of the thalamus. Synonym: nucleus centralis lateralis thalami. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus lateralis thalami | The largest of the major subdivisions of the thalamus; the composite lateral nucleus includes, from before backward, the nucleus lateralis anterior or dorsalis, nucleus lateralis intermedius, nucleus lateralis posterior, and pulvinar; together, these cell groups form most of the free dorsal surface of the posterior half of the thalamus and project to a very large region of parietal, occipitoparietal, and temporal cortex; its afferent connections are largely obscure, but the nucleus lateralis posterior and the pulvinar receive a projection from the superior colliculus. Synonym: nucleus lateralis thalami. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus medialis centralis thalami | A small cell group in the interthalamic adhesion of the thalamus, occupying the midline region of the internal medullary lamina, between the left and the right paracentral nucleus. Synonym: nucleus medialis centralis thalami. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus medialis thalami | A large, composite cell group in the dorsomedial region of the thalamus having reciprocal connections with the entire extent of the frontal cortex anterior to the motor cortex (area 4) and premotor cortex (area 6). The afferent connections of the medial nucleus also include projections from the olfactory cortex and amygdala. Synonym: nucleus medialis thalami, dorsomedial nucleus, mediodorsal nucleus.
