myosin A fibrous protein of muscle that can split ATP, an energy molecule, and that reacts with actin to form actomyosin (not to be confused with Actinomycin : A type of drug that has the capability of inhibiting the transcription of mRNA from DNA.) Back to Top

myosinuria The presence of myosin in the urine. SYN: myosuria.
Ãâó:
myosin ATPase [EC 3.6.1.32] an enzyme activity of muscle that uses the energy derived from the hydrolysis of ATP to drive a cycle of muscular contraction and relaxation. The ATP-hydrolyzing activity occurs in the myosin molecules, but an actomyosin complex is necessary for full activity, in which muscular contraction and relaxation occur by successive making and breaking of cross-bridges between actin and myosin filaments.

myosin f. one of the thick contractile myofilaments in a myofibril, composed mainly of myosin; each myosin filament is surrounded by six actin filaments.
