methyl bromide A fumigant chemical used as an insecticide in stacks of dried fruit in boxes in packing sheds.

methyl bromide An ODS used as a fumigant -- on soils, commodities and in quarantine. This chemical contains carbon, hydrogen and bromine. Its atmospheric lifetime is 2 years. Methyl bromide is also a by-product of low-temperature biomass burning. The Montreal Protocol limits production and consumption of methyl bromide in non-Article 5 countries beginning January 1995 at levels produced and consumed in 1991. There are no restrictions in Article 5 countries.
