Some cases occur on exposure to cold and are due to the presence of an autohemolysin in the serum. | puerperal haemoglobinuria | <haematology, obstetrics> A sudden, severe haemolytic disease that appears sporadically in well nourished dairy cows 2 to 4 weeks after calving, and usually occurs in stabled animals in the winter and early spring; the cause is not known, although the disease is often associated with hypophosphatemia.
