(SI symbol: lx) The unit of measurement for illuminance (ie, the amount of illumination) impinging upon a surface. 1 lx is the illuminance impinging upon a surface of 1 m 2 , each point of which is at a distance of 1 m away from a uniform point source of light of 1 cd (candela). It supersedes the foot-candle. See foot-candle; photon.
