| gonadotropin-releasing hormone | <hormone> The peptide hormone that control reproductive function. It produced and released by the hypothalamus and controls the production and release of gonadotrophins from the pituitary gland. It causes the production of luteinising hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Synonym: gonadotropin-releasing factor, gonadotropin-releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulating hormone-releasing factor, gonadoliberin. Origin: Gonad + L. | pituitary hormone-releasing hormones | Hormones released by one structure (e.g., the hypothalamus or the thyroid gland) that effect the secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland. (12 Dec 1998) |
| msh-releasing hormone | A polypeptide hormone which originates in the hypothalamus and stimulates secretion of melanocyte-stimulating hormones in the pituitary gland. (12 Dec 1998) |
| corticotropin-releasing hormone | <endocrinology, physiology> A neuropeptide released by the hypothalamus that stimulates the release of corticotropin by the anterior pituitary gland. Chemical name: Corticotropin-releasing factor Synonym: corticoliberin, corticotropin releasing factor. (12 Dec 1998) |

| thyroid releasing hormone | <endocrinology> Thyroid releasing hormone (TRH) is a byproduct of the hypothalamus and serves to stimulate the pituitary gland to produce thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TRH is produced by the hypothalamus when thyroid hormone (T3 and T4) blood levels are low. (27 Sep 1997) |
| thyrotrophic releasing hormone | <endocrinology> Tripeptide (pyroGlu His Pro NH2) that releases thyrotrophin from the anterior pituitary by stimulating adenyl cyclase. May also have neurotransmitter and paracrine functions. (18 Nov 1997) |
