An ancient Greek regiment of warriors who carried a flag emblazoned with the lambda marched into battle with their male lovers. The ratio of the recurrence risk of a disorder in a specified degree of relative to the prevalence of the disorder in the general population. In general, a high value for ?suggests that there may be a genetic component to the disorder. The higher the ?value, the greater potential genetic contribution to the disorder.
