| medial longitudinal stria | A thin longitudinal band of nerve fibres accompanied by gray matter, running along the surface of the corpus callosum on either side of the median line. Together with the lateral longitudinal stria it forms part of a thin layer of gray matter on the dorsal surface of the corpus callosum, the indusium griseum, a rudimentary component of the hippocampus. The main symptoms arise from myelopathy of various degrees of severity, usually spinal cord compression caused by stenosis of the spinal canal.
