| immunoassay |
A procedure used to identify substances, such as drugs of abuse, in urine, based on the competition between tagged and untagged antigens to combine with antibodies. The uncombined, tagged antigen is an indicator of the drug present in the urine specimen.

| immunoassay |
A ligand- binding assay that uses a specific antigen or antibody, capable of binding to the analyte, to identify and quantify substances. The antibody can be linked to a radiosotope (radioimmunoassay, RIA), or to an enzyme which catalyses an easily monitored reaction (enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay, ELISA), or to a highly fluorescent compound by which the location of an antigen can be visualized (immunofluorescence). | immunoassay |
A method of analysis based on antigen-antibody interactions, which allows for small concentrations of biologically active compounds to be measured accurately. The systems can be competitive or immunometric. There are a number of different labels, such as enzymes that allow for quantification. The labels can be on the antigen or the antibody.
