gram-negative f. a superinfection complicating long-term systemic antibiotic treatment of acne vulgaris, particularly tetracyclines, usually caused by species of Enterobacter, Klebsiella, or Proteus. Infection with the first two species is manifested by a superficial pustular eruption, often occurring around the nares; deep nodular cysts, usually on the back, are associated with Proteus infections.
