Characteristics include proliferative inflammation, often with giant cells and granulomas; headache; pain with chewing; weight loss; fever; sometimes ocular symptoms; and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Called also cranial, granulomatous, or temporal a. and Horton's a., disease, or syndrome.
