retinaculum of articular capsule of hip One of several longitudinal folds of the articular capsule of the hip joint reflected onto the femoral neck deep to which the retinacular branches of the medial femoral circumflex artery pass to reach the femoral head.
Synonym: retinaculum capsulae articularis coxae, Weitbrecht's fibres.
(05 Mar 2000)
retinaculum of skin One of the numerous small fibrous strands that extend through the superficial fascia attaching the deep surface of the dermis to the underlying deep fascia determining the mobility of the skin over the deep structures; these are particularly well developed over the breast where they are known as suspensory ligaments of the breast; they are also well-developed, but short, in the palms and soles.
Synonym: retinaculum of skin.

retinaculum patellae laterale Part of the aponeurosis of the vastus lateralis muscle passing lateral to the patella to attach to the tibial tuberosity.
Synonym: retinaculum patellae laterale.
(05 Mar 2000)
retinaculum patellae mediale Part of the aponeurosis of the vastus medialis muscle passing medial to the patella to attach to the medial condyle of the tibia, forming the anteromedial aspect of the fibrous capsule of the knee joint.
Synonym: retinaculum patellae mediale.

retinaculum tendinum A ligamentous structure to restrain tendons, such as the flexor or extensor retinacula, or the annular parts of the digital fibrous sheaths.
(05 Mar 2000)
peroneal retinaculum Superior and inferior fibrous bands retaining the tendons of the peroneus longus and brevis in position as they cross the lateral side of the ankle.
Synonym: retinacula musculorum peroneorum, retinacula musculorum fibularium, retinacula of peroneal muscles.
(05 Mar 2000)
Morgagni's retinaculum A fold, more evident in cadavers, running from the junction of the two commissures of the ileocaecal valve on either side along the inner wall of the caecocolic junction.
Synonym: frenulum valvae ileocaecalis, frenulum of Morgagni, Morgagni's frenum, Morgagni's retinaculum.
(05 Mar 2000)
superior extensor retinaculum The ligament that binds down the extensor tendons proximal to the ankle joint; it is continuous with (a thickening of) the deep fascia of the leg.
Synonym: retinaculum musculorum extensorum superius, ligamentum transversum cruris, superior retinaculum of extensor muscles, transverse crural ligament, transverse ligament of leg.
(05 Mar 2000)
superior retinaculum of extensor muscles The ligament that binds down the extensor tendons proximal to the ankle joint; it is continuous with (a thickening of) the deep fascia of the leg.
Synonym: retinaculum musculorum extensorum superius, ligamentum transversum cruris, superior retinaculum of extensor muscles, transverse crural ligament, transverse ligament of leg.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior extensor retinaculum A Y-shaped ligament restraining the extensor tendons of the foot distal to the ankle joint.
Synonym: retinaculum musculorum extensorum inferius, cruciate ligament of leg, inferior retinaculum of extensor muscles, ligamentum cruciatum cruris.
(05 Mar 2000)
inferior retinaculum of extensor muscles A Y-shaped ligament restraining the extensor tendons of the foot distal to the ankle joint.
Synonym: retinaculum musculorum extensorum inferius, cruciate ligament of leg, inferior retinaculum of extensor muscles, ligamentum cruciatum cruris.
(05 Mar 2000)
extensor retinaculum A strong fibrous band formed as a thickening of the antebrachial deep fascia, stretching obliquely across the back of the wrist, attaching deeply to ridges on the dorsal aspect of the radius, triquetral and pisiform bones, binding down the extensor tendons of the fingers and thumb.
Synonym: retinaculum extensorum, dorsal carpal ligament, ligamentum carpi dorsale.
(05 Mar 2000)
lateral patellar retinaculum Part of the aponeurosis of the vastus lateralis muscle passing lateral to the patella to attach to the tibial tuberosity.
Synonym: retinaculum patellae laterale.

accessory flexor muscle of foot <anatomy, muscle> Origin, by two heads from the lateral and medial borders of the inferior surface of the calcaneus; insertion, tendons of flexor digitorum longus; action, assists long flexor; nerve supply, lateral plantar.
Synonym: musculus flexor accessorius, musculus quadratus plantae, accessory flexor muscle of foot, caro quadrata sylvii, musculus pronator pedis, plantar quadrate muscle, quadrate muscle of sole.
(05 Mar 2000)
radial flexor muscle of wrist <anatomy, muscle> Origin, common flexor origin of the medial condyle of humerus; insertion, anterior surface of the base of the second and most often sending a slip to that of the third metacarpal bone; action, flexes and abducts wrist radialward; nerve supply, median; its tendon travels in its own canal roofed by a layer of the transverse carpal ligament.
