All enzymes are given a systematic name and number which identifies them in technical literature. They may also have a "common" name such as trypsin or subtilisin. These names are given by the Enzyme Commission. The number is a four-digit number. Eg creatine kinase is EC 2.7.3.2 (2 because it transfers a group from ATP to creatine, 2.7 because the group is phosphate, 2.7.3 means the supgroup that transfers the phosphate is a nitrogen atom).
