(1) Refers to habitats which are both low in basic nutrients and toxic. (2) Term used to denote high concentrations of humic acid in water. It generally refers to bog ponds with peat-filled margins which eventually develop into peat bogs. Compare eutrophic, mesotrophic, and oligotrophic.
