| duplication |
The presence of an extra copy of chromosome material. At the gene level, this refers to the presence of more than 1 copy of a structured gene, usually having arisen through unequal crossing over. At the chromosomal level, this refers to an unbalanced state in which there may be a triple dose of a portion of an autosome, usually occurring as the result of unequal segregation of a translocation in meiosis (trisomy).
