Included also are semi-synthetic derivatives of the naturally occurring glycosides. The term has sometimes been used more broadly to include all cardiac glycosides, but here is restricted to those related to digitalis. Pharmacological action: anti-arrhythmia agents, cardiotonic agent, enzyme inhibitors. (12 Dec 1998) |
| digitalis tincture | An hydroalcoholic solution containing the glycosides of the leaves of the foxglove (digitalis) plant Digitalis purpurea or D. Lanata. Although digitalis preparations are used extensively, they are currently used as the pure glycosides, digoxin and digitoxin. The tincture was formerly widely used but was standardised by bioassay using frogs, cats, or pigeons. (05 Mar 2000) |
| digitalis unit | The activity of 0.1 g of the international standard powdered digitalis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| facies digitalis palmaris | An alternate term for palmar surface of fingers. (05 Mar 2000) |
| facies digitalis plantaris | facies digitalis plantaris |
| facies digitalis ventralis | The flat of the fingers; the flexor or anterior surface of the fingers. Synonym: facies digitalis ventralis, facies digitalis palmaris, ventral surface of digit. (05 Mar 2000) |
