| portable radiography | Making radiographic films of a patient confined to bed by taking a movable X-ray machine to the room. Synonym: bedside radiography. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| scanning equalization radiography | An electronically enhanced method of radiography in which a small X-ray beam is scanned over the patient while its attenuation is measured, providing feedback to modulate beam intensity in order to equalise average X-ray film exposure. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sectional radiography | <procedure, radiology> The recording of internal body images at a predetermined plane by means of the tomograph, also called body section roentgenography. Origin: Gr. Graphein = to write (18 Nov 1997) |
| serial radiography | Making several X-ray exposures of a single region over a period of time, as in angiography. (05 Mar 2000) |
| spot-film radiography | An X-ray of a localised region, usually under study by fluoroscopy. (05 Mar 2000) |
| electron radiography | <radiology> Radiographic imaging in which X-radiation incident on the receptor is converted to a latent charge image and subsequently recovered by a special printing process; advantages include wider latitude of exposure and greater sensitivity than conventional film-screen combinations. See: xeroradiography, phosphor plate. (05 Mar 2000) |
| analog-digital conversion | The process of converting analog data such as continually measured voltage to discrete, digital form. (12 Dec 1998) |
| angiography, digital subtraction | A method of delineating blood vessels by subtracting a tissue background image from an image of tissue plus intravascular contrast material that attenuates the X-ray photons. The background image is determined from a digitised image taken a few moments before injection of the contrast material. The resulting angiogram is a high-contrast image of the vessel. This subtraction technique allows extraction of a high-intensity signal from the superimposed background information. The image is thus the result of the differential absorption of X-rays by different tissues. (12 Dec 1998) |
| annular part of fibrous digital sheath | One of the two circular fibrous bands of the fibrous sheaths of the fingers and toes attached to the shaft of the proximal and middle phalanges. Synonym: pars annularis vaginae fibrosae, annular pulley, annulus of fibrous sheath, ligamentum annulare digitorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| palmar digital veins | Paired venae comitantes of the proper and common digital arteries that empty into the superficial palmar venous arch. Synonym: venae digitales palmares. (05 Mar 2000) |
| recurring digital fibromas of childhood | Multiple fibrous flesh-coloured nodules on the extensor aspect of the terminal phalanges of adjacent digits of infants and young children which often recur after attempted excision, do not metastasize, and may spontaneously regress in two to three years; composed of spindle cells containing cytoplasmic inclusions believed to be derived from myofibrils. Synonym: infantile digital fibromatosis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| collateral digital artery | <anatomy, artery> Terminal branches of the common palmar digital artery that pass to the side of each finger. Synonym: arteria digitalis palmaris propria, collateral digital artery, digital collateral artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| common palmar digital artery | <anatomy, artery> One of three arteries arising from the superficial palmar arch and running to the interdigital clefts where each divides into two proper palmar digital arteries. Synonym: arteria digitalis palmaris communis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| common palmar digital nerves | Four nerves in the palm that send branches (proper palmar digital nerves) to adjacent sides of two digits; three are branches of the median, one is from the ulnar. Synonym: nervi digitales palmares communes. (05 Mar 2000) |
| common plantar digital artery | <anatomy, artery> One of four arteries arising from a superficial plantar arch, when present as a variation. They unite with the plantar metatarsal arteries. Synonym: arteria digitalis plantaris communis. (05 Mar 2000) |
