| diagnosis, oral | Examination of the mouth and teeth toward the identification and diagnosis of intraoral disease or manifestation of non-oral conditions. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|---|
| diagnosis, pathologic | A diagnosis, sometimes made postmortem on the basis of the study of tissue and/or organs. (27 Sep 1997) |
| diagnosis, physical | A diagnosis which is made by means of the physical examination of the patient. (27 Sep 1997) |
| differential diagnosis | The determination of which two or more diseases with similar symptoms is the one from which a patient is suffering from based on an analysis of the clinical data. (27 Sep 1997) |
| DNA diagnosis | <molecular biology> The use of DNA polymorphisms to detect the presence of a disease gene. (09 Oct 1997) |
| laboratory diagnosis | A diagnosis made by a chemical, microscopic, microbiologic, immunologic, or pathologic study of secretions, discharges, blood, or tissue. (05 Mar 2000) |
| adhesion-related kinase | <chemical> New member of the immunoglobulin superfamily with 2 immunoglobulin-like domains Synonym: ark protein, ark receptor tyrosine kinase (26 Jun 1999) |
| age-related macular degeneration | A common macular degeneration beginning with drusen of the macula and pigment disruption and sometimes leading to severe loss of central vision. (05 Mar 2000) |
| aids-related complex | A prodromal phase of infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Laboratory criteria separating aids-related complex (arc) from aids include elevated or hyperactive B-cell humoral immune responses, compared to depressed or normal antibody reactivity in aids; follicular or mixed hyperplasia in arc lymph nodes, leading to lymphocyte degeneration and depletion more typical of aids; evolving succession of histopathological lesions such as localization of kaposi's sarcoma, signaling the transition to the full-blown aids. (12 Dec 1998) |
| aids-related opportunistic infections | Opportunistic infections found in patients who test positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The most common include pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, kaposi's sarcoma, cryptosporidiosis, herpes simplex, toxoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and infections with mycobacterium avium complex, microsporidium, and cytomegalovirus. (12 Dec 1998) |
| AIDS-related virus | An obsolete term for human immunodeficiency virus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| alcohol-related disorders | Mental disorders related or resulting from abuse or mis-use of alcohol. (12 Dec 1998) |
| amphetamine-related disorders | Disorders related or resulting from use of amphetamines. (12 Dec 1998) |
| angiotensin-related carboxypeptidase | <enzyme> Rat and bovine brain synaptosomal enzyme can hydrolyze angiotensin I to des-leu angiotensin I, but no further Registry number: EC 3.4.- Synonym: angiotensin-specific carboxypeptidase (26 Jun 1999) |
| calcitonin gene-related peptide | <protein> A second product transcribed from the calcitonin gene. Calcitonin gene related peptide is found in a number of tissues including nervous tissue. It is a vasodilator that may participate in the cutaneous triple response. It is a neuropeptide of 37 amino acids with structural homology to salmon calcitonin. Co-localises with substance P in neurons. It occurs as a result of alternative processing of mRNA from the calcitonin gene. The neuropeptide is widely distributed in neural tissue of the brain, gut, perivascular nerves, and other tissue. The peptide produces multiple biological effects and has both circulatory and neurotransmitter modes of action. In particular, it is a potent endogenous vasodilator. Intracerebral administration leads to a rise in noradrenergic sympathetic outflow, a rise in blood pressure and a fall in gastric secretion. Acronym: CGRP (05 May 2002) |
