| deep lingual vein | <anatomy, vein> The principle vein of the tongue that accompanies the deep lingual artery and joins the lingual vein. It drains the body and apex of the tongue, running posteriorly near the median plane; they are often visible through the mucosa on the underside of the tongue, to each side of the frenulum. | deep middle cerebral vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein that accompanies the middle cerebral artery in the depths of the lateral sulcus and empties into the basal vein of Rosenthal. Synonym: vena cerebri media profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep vein of penis | The vein deep to the deep fascia on the dorsum of the penis. It enters the prostatic plexus by passing through a gap between the arcuate pubic ligament and the transverse perineal ligament. Synonym: vena profunda penis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep vein thrombosis | Blood clotting in the veins of the inner thigh or leg. In air travel, DVT is the economy-class syndrome. Even in young, health travelers the long stretches immobilised in cramped seats in cabins with very low humidity set the stage for the formation of a thrombus (blood clot) in the lower leg. Blood clots can break off (as an embolism) and makes its way to the luhg where it has the potential of causing respiratory distress and respiratory failure. (12 Dec 1998) |
| anterior circumflex humeral artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, axillary; distribution, shoulder joint and biceps muscle; anastomoses, posterior circumflex humeral artery. Synonym: arteria circumflexa humeri anterior, anterior humeral circumflex artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior humeral circumflex artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, axillary; distribution, shoulder joint and biceps muscle; anastomoses, posterior circumflex humeral artery. Synonym: arteria circumflexa humeri anterior, anterior humeral circumflex artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial circumflex artery of thigh | <anatomy, artery> Origin, profunda femoris; distribution, hip joint, muscles of thigh; anastomoses, inferior gluteal, superior gluteal, lateral circumflex femoral. Synonym: arteria circumflexa femoris medialis, medial circumflex artery of thigh, medial femoral circumflex artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial circumflex femoral artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, profunda femoris; distribution, hip joint, muscles of thigh; anastomoses, inferior gluteal, superior gluteal, lateral circumflex femoral. Synonym: arteria circumflexa femoris medialis, medial circumflex artery of thigh, medial femoral circumflex artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| circumflex | Describing an arc of a circle or that which winds around something; denotes several anatomical structures: arteries, veins, nerves, and muscles. Origin: circum-+ L. Flexus, to bend (05 Mar 2000) |
| circumflex branch of left coronary artery | <anatomy, artery> Terminal branch (with anterior interventricular artery) of left coronary artery which runs to left and then posteriorly in the coronary groove supplying atrial and ventricular branches. Synonym: ramus circumflexus arteriae coronariae sinistrae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| circumflex femoral arteries | See: lateral circumflex femoral artery, medial circumflex femoral artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| circumflex fibular artery | <anatomy, artery> The circumflex fibular branch, a branch of the posterior tibial artery which winds around the neck of the fibula and joins the anastomoses around the knee joint. Synonym: ramus circumflexus fibularis arteriae tibialis posterioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
