Cori ester An important intermediate in glycogenesis and glycogenolysis.
Synonym: Cori ester.
(05 Mar 2000)
Harden-Young ester D-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate;important intermediate in sugar metabolism.
(05 Mar 2000)
Neuberg ester <biochemistry> A phosphorylated six-carbon sugar formed in the second step of glycolysis by the action of phosphoglucose isomerase on glucose-6-phosphate. In the third step, fructose 6-phospate and ATP are used to create fructose 1,6-biphosphate, ADP and a free hydrogen with the aid of phosphofructokinase.
(08 Mar 2000)
ng-nitroarginine methyl ester <chemical> A non-selective inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase. It has been used experimentally to induce hypertension.
Pharmacological action: enzyme inhibitors.
(12 Dec 1998)
sugar ester Ester of a sugar with an organic or inorganic acid; e.g., d-glucose-6-phosphate.
(05 Mar 2000)
isoprenylcysteine methyl ester hydrolase <enzyme> Acts on proteins post-translationally isoprenylated on a cysteine 3 amino acids in from the carboxy terminus, followed by carboxymethylation
Registry number: EC 3.1.1.-
Synonym: isoprenylcys methylase
(26 Jun 1999)
thiol ester An ester formed from a carboxylic acid and a thiol (i.e., RCO-SR') e.g., acetyl-coenzyme A.
(05 Mar 2000)
Embden ester Hexose phosphate;a mixture of d-glucose-6-phosphate and d-fructose 6-phosphate; significant in the understanding of sugar metabolism.
(05 Mar 2000)
tosylarginine methyl ester <chemical> N(2)-(p-tolylsulfonyl)-l-arginine, methyl ester. Arginine derivative which is a substrate for many proteolytic enzymes. As a substrate for the esterase from the first component of complement, it inhibits the action of c(l) on c(4).
Chemical name: L-Arginine, N2-((4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl)-, methyl ester
(12 Dec 1998)
tosylarginine methyl ester hydrolase <enzyme> Protease from sea urchin (arbacia punctulata) eggs; fertilization in the sea urchin is accompanied by the release of this protease from eggs into the surrounding seawater; enzyme uses tame as substrate; used as a measure of trypsin-like activity; tryptase (formerly here) is mast cell tryptase (EC 3.4.21.59)
Registry number: EC 3.4.-
Synonym: tame hydrolase, tame esterase, esterase a2, n-tosyl-l-arginine methyl ester esterase, tamase, tamase-1
(26 Jun 1999)
ester <chemistry> A general term for any organic molecule produced by combining an acid with an alcohol.
A derivative of carboxylic acid (acid with a carboxyl group -COOH) which has the general formula RCOOR, where the R's stand for the same or different aliphatic groups (alkyl groups), aromatic groups (aryl groups), or hydrogen ions.
(09 Oct 1997)
tyrosine-ester sulfotransferase <enzyme> Also acts on phenols and organic hydroxylamines
Registry number: EC 2.8.2.9
Synonym: arylsulfotransferase iv
(26 Jun 1999)

Registry number: EC 2.3.1.-
Synonym: facees, 2-chloroethyl ester synthase
(26 Jun 1999)
fatty acyl ethyl ester synthase <enzyme> Myocardial enzyme; esterifies free fatty acids in the absence of ATP and coenzyme a; the fatty acid ethyl ester synthase III has homology with glutathione s-transferase
Registry number: EC 2.3.1.-
Synonym: fatty acid ethyl ester synthase, fatty acid ethyl ester synthase III, faee synthase, faees-iii gene product
(26 Jun 1999)
7-hydroxycoumarinyl ester hyrolase <enzyme> A recombinant cytosolic phospholipase a2 that not only possesses pla2 and lyso-pl activities, but also hydrolyzes simple fatty acid esters of 7-hydroxycoumarin
Registry number: EC 3.1.1.-
Synonym: 7-hcease
