| crural triangle | An area of predilection for the petechial initial rash of smallpox; it occupies the lower abdominal, inguinal, and genital regions and the inner aspects of the thighs, the base of the triangle traversing the umbilicus. (05 Mar 2000) |

| deep crural arch | Thickened inferior margin of the transversalis fascia seen as a fibrous band running parallel and posterior (deep) to the inguinal ligament, contributing to the posterior wall of the inguinal canal as it bridges the external iliac-femoral vessels from the iliopectineal arch to the superior pubic ramus. It marks the inferior edge of the deep inguinal ring and the medial margin of the femoral canal. Seen only when the inguinal region is viewed from its internal aspect, it is a useful landmark in laparoscopy of this region, as for repair of inguinal herniae. Synonym: deep crural arch, Thompson's ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| transverse crural ligament | The ligament that binds down the extensor tendons proximal to the ankle joint; it is continuous with (a thickening of) the deep fascia of the leg. Synonym: retinaculum musculorum extensorum superius, ligamentum transversum cruris, superior retinaculum of extensor muscles, transverse crural ligament, transverse ligament of leg. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior interosseous artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, common interosseous; distribution, deep parts of the forearm anteriorly; anastomoses, posterior interosseous. Synonym: arteria interossea anterior, arteria interossea volaris, volar interosseous artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior interosseous nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A branch of the median arising in elbow region, running on interosseous membrane, supplying the flexor pollicis longus, part of flexor digitorum profundus and the pronator quadratus muscles, as well as radiocarpal and intercarpal joints. Synonym: nervus interosseus anterior, ramus profundus nervi radialis, nervus antebrachii anterior, anterior antebrachial nerve, volar interosseous nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| palmar interosseous artery | <anatomy, artery> One of the three arteries springing from the deep palmar arch and running in the three medial interosseous spaces; they anastomose with the common palmar and dorsal metacarpal arteries. Synonym: arteria metacarpea palmaris, palmar interosseous artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| palmar interosseous muscle | <anatomy> Three muscles in the hand; origin, first: ulnar side of second metacarpal; second and third: radial sides of fourth and fifth metacarpals; insertion, first: into ulnar side of index; second and third: into radial sides of ring and little fingers; action, adducts fingers toward axis of middle finger; nerve supply, ulnar. See: flexor pollicis brevis muscle. Synonym: musculus interosseus palmaris, musculus interosseus volaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| recurrent interosseous artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, posterior interosseous; distribution, elbow joint; anastomoses, branches of profunda brachii and inferior ulnar collateral, i.e., articular vascular network of elbow. Synonym: arteria interossea recurrens. (05 Mar 2000) |
| volar interosseous artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, common interosseous; distribution, deep parts of the forearm anteriorly; anastomoses, posterior interosseous. Synonym: arteria interossea anterior, arteria interossea volaris, volar interosseous artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| volar interosseous nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A branch of the median arising in elbow region, running on interosseous membrane, supplying the flexor pollicis longus, part of flexor digitorum profundus and the pronator quadratus muscles, as well as radiocarpal and intercarpal joints. Synonym: nervus interosseus anterior, ramus profundus nervi radialis, nervus antebrachii anterior, anterior antebrachial nerve, volar interosseous nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |

| plantar interosseous muscle | <anatomy> Three intrinsic muscles of foot; origin, the medial side of the third, fourth, and fifth metatarsal bones; insertion, corresponding side of proximal phalanx of the same toes; action, adducts three lateral toes; nerve supply, lateral plantar. Synonym: musculus interosseus plantaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| posterior interosseous artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, common interosseous artery; distribution, posterior compartment of forearm. Synonym: arteria interossea posterior, dorsal interosseous artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
