An endemic disease common in Switzerland and other mountainous countries, characterized by goiter, stinted growth, swelled abdomen, wrinkled skin, wan complexion, vacant and stupid countenance, misshapen cranium, idiocy, and comparative insensibility. [Thomas1875] A form of idiocy accompanied by deformity of bodily organs, very frequently associated with goiter or Derbyshire neck. [Wilson1893]
