conglutination r.

conglutinin
a nonimmunoglobulin bovine serum protein that aggregates immune complexes with conglutinogen activity (inactivated C3b) in the presence of divalent cations. It has been used as an indicator system, replacing complement fixation, in serologic tests, and in the detection of immune complexes. Not to be confused with immunoconglutinin. Called also bovine colloid.

conglutinogen
the capacity of certain immune complexes to react with conglutinin due to the fixation of the complement component C3 and the subsequent inactivation of C3b by factor I (formerly called conglutinogen-activating factor [KAF]).
