a chronic unremitting form of lupus erythematosus, usually involving the fingertips, nose, face, ears, hands, calves, and heels, and caused by microvascular injury secondary to cold exposure. Initially the lesions resemble chilblains and may mimic those of lupus pernio in sarcoidosis, but they eventually assume the appearance of discoid lupus erythematosus. Called also l. pernio.
