| arteria meningea posterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, ascending pharyngeal; distribution, dura mater of posterior cranial fossa; anastomoses, branches of middle meningeal and vertebral. Synonym: arteria meningea posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| arteria nasalis posterior septi | A branch of the sphenopalatine artery that supplies the nasal septum and accompanies the nasopalatine nerve. Synonym: arteria nasalis posterior septi. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria parietales posterior | <anatomy, artery> The branch distributed to the posterior part of the parietal lobe. Synonym: arteria parietales posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria recurrens tibialis posterior | <anatomy, artery> An inconstant branch of the posterior tibial artery which ascends anterior to the popliteus muscle, anastomoses with branches of the popliteal artery, and sends a twig to the tibiofibular joint. Synonym: arteria recurrens tibialis posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria temporalis posterior | <anatomy, artery> A branch of the insular part of the middle cerebral artery distributed to the cortex of the posterior part of the temporal lobe. Synonym: arteria temporalis posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria tibialis posterior | <anatomy, artery> The larger and more directly continuous of the two terminal branches of the popliteal; branches, peroneal, nutrient of fibula, lateral and medial posterior malleolar, nutrient of tibia, medial and lateral plantar. Synonym: arteria tibialis posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria tympanica posterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, stylomastoid; distribution, middle ear; anastomoses, other tympanic arteries. Synonym: arteria tympanica posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arachnoidea mater spinalis | That portion of the arachnoid which lies within the vertebral canal and surrounds the spinal cord and the vertebral portion of the subarachnoid space. It extends from the foramen magnum above to the S-2 vertebral level. Since the spinal cord ends at the L-2 vertebral level, a wide separation occurs between the arachnoid and pia mater, the lumbar cistern, filled with cerebrospinal fluid in which the cauda equina is suspended. Synonym: arachnoidea mater spinalis, spinal part of arachnoid. (05 Mar 2000) |
| canalis centralis medullae spinalis | The ependyma-lined lumen (cavity) of the neural tube, the cerebral part of which remains patent to form the ventricles of the brain, while the spinal part in the adult often is reduced to a solid strand of modified ependyma. Synonym: canalis centralis medullae spinalis, central canal of spinal cord, tubus medullaris. Synonym: syringocele. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ramus ventralis nervi spinalis | <anatomy, nerve> The larger, anterolaterally-directed major terminal branch (with the dorsal primary ramus) of all 31 pairs of mixed spinal nerves, formed at the intervertebral foramen. Most ventral primary rami, especially those involved in the innervation of the limbs, participate in the formation of the major nerve plexuses (cervical, brachial, and lumbosacral) and lose their identities. Most in the thoracic region, however, remain separate from adjacent rami to become the intercostal and subcostal nerves. Ventral primary rami provide innervation to the anterolateral body wall and trunk. Nomina Anatomica lists ventral primary rami as "rami ventrales" for each group of spinal nerves: 1) cervical (nervorum cervicalium ), 2) thoracic (nervorum thoracicorum ), 3) lumbar (nervorum lumbalium ), 4) sacral (nervorum sacralium )m, and 5) coccygeal (nervi coccygei ). Synonym: ramus ventralis nervi spinalis, anterior primary division. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars cervicalis medullae spinalis | The part of the spinal cord that consists of the eight cervical segments and gives rise to the first eight pairs of spinal nerves. Synonym: pars cervicalis medullae spinalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars coccygea medullae spinalis | The terminal part of the spinal cord consisting of the three coccygeal segments of the spinal cord from which the three pairs of coccygeal nerves originate. Synonym: pars coccygea medullae spinalis, segmenta medullae spinalis coccygea. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars lumbalis medullae spinalis | lumbar part |
| pars sacralis medullae spinalis | The part of the cord from which consists of the five sacral segments of the spinal cord (S1-S5) and from which five pairs of sacral nerves originate. Synonym: pars sacralis medullae spinalis, segmenta medullae spinalis sacralia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars spinalis nervi accessorii | <anatomy> An alternate term for spinal root of accessory nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
