| plexus maxillaris externus | An autonomic plexus on the facial artery derived from the external carotid plexus; it sends a branch to the submandibular ganglion. Synonym: external maxillary plexus, plexus maxillaris externus. (05 Mar 2000) |

| plexus maxillaris internus | <anatomy, artery> An autonomic plexus on the maxillary artery derived from the external carotid plexus. Synonym: internal maxillary plexus, maxillary plexus, plexus maxillaris internus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| processus maxillaris | A thin plate of irregular form projecting from the middle of the upper border of the inferior concha, articulating with the maxilla bone and partly closing the orifice of the maxillary sinus. Synonym: processus maxillaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| hiatus maxillaris | The large opening into the maxillary sinus on the nasal surface of the maxilla. Synonym: hiatus maxillaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sinus maxillaris | A air filled cavity within the maxilla (bone that forms the face and upper jaw). The maxillary sinus is located just below the bony prominence of the cheek (27 Sep 1997) |
| nervus maxillaris | <anatomy, nerve> The intermediate sensory division of the trigeminal (5th cranial) nerve. The maxillary nerve carries general afferents from the intermediate region of the face including the lower eyelid, nose and upper lip, the maxillary teeth, and parts of the dura. (12 Dec 1998) |
| facies maxillaris alae majoris | maxillary surface of greater wing of sphenoid bone |
| facies maxillaris ossis palatini | The part of the anterior surface of the greater wing of the sphenoid bone that is perforated by the foramen rotundum and forms the posterior boundary of the pterygopalatine fossa. (05 Mar 2000) |
| auris interna | auris interna |
| basis cranii interna | <anatomy> The interior aspect of the skull base on which the brain rests; the floor of the cranial cavity. See: base of skull. Synonym: basis cranii interna. (05 Mar 2000) |
| capsula interna | <anatomy, neurology> A massive layer (8 to 10 mm thick) of white matter separating the caudate nucleus and thalamus (medial) from the more laterally situated lentiform nucleus (globus pallidus and putamen). It consists of 1) fibres ascending from the thalamus to the cerebral cortex that compose, among others, the visual, auditory, and somatic sensory radiations, and 2) fibres descending from the cerebral cortex to the thalamus, subthalamic region, midbrain, hindbrain, and spinal cord. The internal capsule is the major route by which the cerebral cortex is connected with the brainstem and spinal cord. Laterally and superiorly it is continuous with the corona radiata which forms a major part of the cerebral hemisphere's white matter; caudally and medially it continues, much reduced in size, as the crus cerebri which contains, among others, the pyramidal tract. On horizontal section it appears in the form of a V opening out laterally; the V's obtuse angle is called genu (knee). Its anterior and posterior limbs, respectively, the crus anterior and crus posterior. Synonym: capsula interna. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pachymeningitis interna | Inflammation of the inner surface of the dura mater. Synonym: internal meningitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vagina interna nervi optici | <anatomy, nerve> The innermost sheath around the optic nerve, continuous with the leptomeninges (pia-arachnoid) and including a cerebrospinal fluid-filled intervaginal space, continuous with the subarachnoid space. Synonym: vagina interna nervi optici. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena iliaca interna | <anatomy, vein> Runs from the upper border of the greater sciatic notch to the brim of the pelvis where it joins the external iliac vein to form the common iliac vein; it drains most of the territory supplied by the internal iliac artery. Synonym: vena iliaca interna. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena jugularis interna | <anatomy, vein> Main venouus structure of the neck, formed as a continuation of the sigmoid sinus of the dura mater, contained within the carotid sheath as it descends the neck uniting, behind the sternoclavicular joint, with the subclavian vein to form the brachiocephalic vein. Synonym: vena jugularis interna. (05 Mar 2000) |
