thalamic fasciculus Nerve fibres forming a composite bundle containing cerebellothalamic (crossed) and pallidothalamic (uncrossed) fibres that is insinuated between the thalamus and zona incerta.
See: fields of Forel.
Synonym: fasciculus thalamicus.
(05 Mar 2000)
thalamic gustatory nucleus The small ventral region of the ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus in which the fibres of the gustatory lemniscus and secondary trigeminal tracts terminate; it projects to the lower part of the postcentral gyrus of the cerebral cortex.
Synonym: arcuate nucleus, nucleus arcuatus thalami, nucleus arcuatus, semilunar nucleus of Flechsig, thalamic gustatory nucleus.
(05 Mar 2000)
thalamic nuclei Several groups of nuclei in the thalamus that serve as the major relay centres for sensory impulses in the brain.
(12 Dec 1998)
thalamic syndrome <syndrome> A syndrome produced by infarction of the postero-inferior thalamus causing transient hemiparesis, severe loss of superficial and deep sensation with preservation of crude pain in the hypalgic limbs which frequently have vasomotor or trophic disturbances.
Synonym: Dejerine-Roussy syndrome.
(05 Mar 2000)
thalamic tenia The sharp edge or angle between the superior and medial surface of the thalamus on either side; to it is attached the epithelial lamina forming the roof of the third ventricle.
Synonym: tenia ventriculi tertii, thalamic tenia.
(05 Mar 2000)
lateral thalamic peduncle The massive group of fibres that emerges from the laterodorsal side of the thalamus to join the corona radiata; it reciprocally connects the lateral nucleus and the geniculate bodies of the thalamus with the corresponding regions of the cerebral cortex.
Synonym: pedunculus thalami lateralis.
(05 Mar 2000)
anterior part of anterior commissure of brain The anterior part of the anterior or rostral commissure of the brain.
Synonym: pars anterior commissurae rostralis, pars anterior commissurae anterioris cerebri.
(05 Mar 2000)
accessory tubercle A small apophysis at the posterior part of the base of the transverse process of each of the lumbar vertebrae.
Synonym: processus accessorius, accessory tubercle.
(05 Mar 2000)
acoustic tubercle The slight prominence of the floor of the lateral recess of the fourth ventricle, corresponding to the underlying cochlear and vestibular nuclei.
Synonym: acoustic tubercle, trigonum acustici.
(05 Mar 2000)
adductor tubercle The prominence above the medial epicondyle of the femur to which the tendon of the adductor magnus attaches.
Synonym: tuberculum adductorium.
(05 Mar 2000)
amygdaloid tubercle A projection from the roof of the anterior end-portion of the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle, marking the location of the amygdaloid nucleus.
(05 Mar 2000)
anatomical tubercle postmortem wart
articular surface of tubercle of rib An oval facet on the inferomedial part of the tubercle of a rib for articulation with a facet on the transverse process of a vertebra.
Synonym: facies articularis tuberculi costae.
(05 Mar 2000)
articular tubercle of temporal bone Articular eminence of the temporal bone which bounds the mandibular fossa anteriorly; it forms the anterior root of the zygomatic process; it is enclosed by the articular capsule of the temporomandibular joint with the articular fossa; the head of the mandible (and intervening articular disc) move onto the articular tubercle to allow full depression of mandible (opening of mouth).
Synonym: tuberculum articulare ossis temporalis, articular eminence of temporal bone, eminentia articularis ossis temporalis, tuber zygomaticum.
(05 Mar 2000)
ashen tubercle A longitudinal prominence on the dorsolateral surface of the medulla oblongata along the lateral border of the tuberculum cuneatum; it is the surface profile of the spinal tract of trigeminal nerve, continuous caudally with the dorsolateral fasciculus (Lissauer's tract).
Synonym: ashen tubercle, gray tubercle, Rolando's tubercle.
