| ambulatory electrocardiography | <investigation> An investigation, during which prolonged electrocardiographic recordings are made on a portable tape recorder (holter-type system) or solid-state device, while the patient undertakes normal daily activities. It measures the heart rhythm (ECG) over a 24 hour period while the patient records their symptoms and activities in a diary. After the test is complete, a correlation is made between the symptoms or activities recorded and the ECG pattern that was obtained simultaneously.
