ala temporalis Strong squamous processes extending in a broad superolateral curve from the body of the sphenoid bone. The greater wing presents these suraces (facies): 1) cerebral surface: forms anterior third of the floor of the lateral portions of the middle cranial fossa; 2) temporal surface: forms the deepest portion of the temporal fossa; 3) infratemporal surface, forms the "roof" of the infratemporal fossa; 4) orbital surface: forms posterolateral wall of orbit. The greater wing forms the inferior border of the supraorbital fissure, and is perforated at its root by foramina rotundum ovale, and spinosum and the pterygoid canal.
Synonym: ala major ossis sphenoidalis, ala temporalis.
(05 Mar 2000)
ala vespertilionis An obsolete term for broad ligament of the uterus.
Origin: L. Bat's wing

ansiform lobule Comprises the greater part of the hemisphere of the cerebellum; its superior and inferior surfaces are separated by the horizontal fissure into major parts known as crus I (superior semilunar lobule) and crus II (inferior semilunar lobule).
(05 Mar 2000)
anterior lunate lobule The part of the superior surface of the cerebellar hemisphere lying rostral to the horizontal fissure, and adjoining the folium of the vermis.
Synonym: lobulus semilunaris superior, anterior lunate lobule, crus I.
(05 Mar 2000)
biventer lobule A lobule on the undersurface of each cerebellar hemisphere, divided by a curved sulcus into a lateral and medial portion; it corresponds to the pyramid of the vermis.
Synonym: lobulus biventer, biventral lobule, cuneiform lobe, lobulus biventralis, lobulus cuneiformis.
(05 Mar 2000)
biventral lobule A lobule on the undersurface of each cerebellar hemisphere, divided by a curved sulcus into a lateral and medial portion; it corresponds to the pyramid of the vermis.
Synonym: lobulus biventer, biventral lobule, cuneiform lobe, lobulus biventralis, lobulus cuneiformis.
(05 Mar 2000)
paracentral lobule A division of the medial aspect of the cerebral cortex, lying above the singulate sulcus and bounded by the precentral sulcus in front and the marginal part of the cingulate sulcus behind.
Synonym: lobulus paracentralis.
(05 Mar 2000)
renal cortical lobule One of the subdivisions of the kidney, consisting of a medullary ray and that portion of the convoluted port (renal corpuscles and convoluted tubules) associated with its collecting duct.
Synonym: lobulus corticalis renalis, renal cortical lobule, renculus, reniculus, renunculus.
(05 Mar 2000)
respiratory lobule The part of the airway consisting of a respiratory bronchiole and all of its branches.
Synonym: primary pulmonary lobule, respiratory lobule.
(05 Mar 2000)
gracile lobule The anterior portion of the posteroinferior lobule of the cerebellum, the posterior portion being the semilunar lobule inferior; the two correspond to the tuber of the vermis.
Synonym: lobulus gracilis, slender lobule.
(05 Mar 2000)
convoluted part of kidney lobule Proximal and distal convoluted tubules and the associated renal corpuscles supplied by branches of the interlobular arteries.
