| adenylate cyclase |
[EC 4.6.1.1] an enzyme of the lyase class that catalyzes the formation of 3′,5′-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) from ATP. The enzyme occurs in plasma cell membranes and is activated by certain hormones (epinephrine, vasopressin, glucagon, and corticotropin). The resultant cyclic AMP serves as an important metabolic regulator. Called also adenyl cyclase and adenylyl cyclase.

| adenylate kinase |
[EC 2.7.4.3] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the reaction 2ADP = ATP + AMP. The enzyme occurs predominantly in muscle and provides a means of using both high-energy phosphate bonds from ATP for muscle contraction. The reaction makes AMP concentration a sensitive indicator of depletion of the high-energy phosphate pool and also maintains balance in the nucleotide pool. Called also AMP kinase.
