a syndrome associated with birth trauma, characterized by bilateral athetosis, walking difficulties, spasmodic outbursts of laughing or crying, speech disorders, excessive myelination of the nerve fibers of the corpus striatum, giving it a marbled appearance (status marmoratus), and sometimes mental deficiency. Called also s. of corpus striatum.
