It is a low, uniform sheet-like cloud. Stratus may appear in the form of ragged patches, but otherwise does not exhibit individual cloud elements as do cumulus and stratocumulus clouds. It usually is located between the ground and 6,500 feet. It usually consist of mainly water vapor. Fog is a stratus cloud with its base located at the ground.
