a chronic granulomatous bacterial infection caused by contamination by Mycobacterium marinum of an abrasion sustained in a swimming pool; histologically and clinically it resembles tuberculosis, being characterized by a reddish papule or pustule at the site of inoculation that enlarges and may break down and become covered by a brownish crust; it tends to heal spontaneously within a few months to 2 years.
