a genus of Fungi Imperfecti of the form-class Hyphomycetes, form-family Moniliaceae; its perfect (sexual) stage is Pseudallescheria. S. apiosper´mum is the anamorph of P. boydii, a major cause of eumycotic mycetoma. S. infla´tum has been isolated from several cases of osteomyelitis. Formerly called Monosporium.
