| 설명 | 대기압보다 높은 기압환경을 인공적으로 만들어 그 안에서 고농도의 산소를 흡입시키는 요법. 한국에서 연탄가스로 대표되는 일산화탄소의 급성중독의 치료에 많이 이용된 것으로, 보통 3대기압 정도로 가압된 고압산소실이나 고압산소탱크 속에 환자를 놓고 전신에 산소를 흡입시킨다. 고압실은 크고 작은 여러 가지가 있으며, 구조상 1실식-2실식-다실식이 있다. 가압 가스의 종류에는 산소-공기-혼합 가스등이 있고, 2~3 대기압 또는 그 이상의 고압 환경을 만든다. 임상적으로 응용범위가 넓어서 기계적 효과에 의하여 잠수부병이나 창자관마비에 의한 창자폐색 치료 등에 유효하고, 가스궤저 등의 무산소성 세균감염에서도 이용된다. 또 산소운반효과에 의하여 일산화탄소-심근경색-뇌색전증-출혈쇼크에 의한 급성의 조직산소결핍의 치료에 유효하다. 또 암의 방사선요법에 병용하면 이 요법으로 암세포의 분열이 왕성해져, 세포분열 중인 세포에 방사선을 조사함으로써 분열능력을 없애는 데 유효하여 고압산소흡입조사법이라고 한다. |

| 설명 | 방사선의 살균효과나 세포를 죽이는 효과를 치료에 이용하는 방법으로, 좁은 의미로 암의 방사선치료를 의미한다. 암에 대한 방사선치료는 암세포를 죽이는데 효과가 큰 베타선을 주로 사용한다. 하지만, 이런 방사선치료는 정상세포에도 큰 영향을 끼쳐 이에 따른 기능의 장애를 가져올 수 있다. 따라서 방사선치료에 있어서는 단지 그 암세포에 대한 작용뿐만 아니라, 정상세포에 대한 작용도 고려하여 시행한다. |

| Gierke's respiratory bundle | A slender, compact fibre bundle extending longitudinally through the dorsolateral region of the medullary tegmentum, surrounded by the nucleus of the solitary tract, below the obex decussating over the central canal, and descending over some distance into the upper cervical segments of the spinal cord. | respiratory acidosis | <biochemistry> A metabolic derangement of acid-base balance where the blood pH is abnormally low. Causes include haemorrhagic shock, cardiogenic shock, severe dehydration, sepsis, toxic ingestion (for example isopropyl alcohol, methanol), alcoholic ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis, renal failure and diabetic ketoacidosis.
