| 설명 | 국한성인 불쾌 또는 고통스러운 감각. 생체에 침해적인 자극이 가해졌을 때 생기는 통각은 상황, 과거의 경험, 심리적인 요인에 의해 변화한다. 특징으로서 순응이 어려울 정도로 다양한 생체반응을 일으킨다. 통각은 몸통증과 내장통증으로 분류되며, 몸통증은 다시 얕은 통증과 깊은 통증으로 나뉜다. 얕은 통증은 피부나 점막의 통각으로 통점으로서 존재하며, 깊은 통증은 근육, 뼈막, 관절통이다. 통증수용기는 자유신경 종말이다. 통증 정보를 전달하는 신경섬유는 Aδ와 C인데 Aδ섬유는 빠른 통증(일차통증)을 전달하고, C섬유는 느린 통증(이차통증)을 전달한다. 통각에는 상위중추에서 하행섬유에 가하는 하행억제가 존재하여, 통각이 상위중추로 전달되는 것을 조절하고 있다. |

| 설명 | 생존가능 한계 이후에, 정기 출산의 시기 이전에 자연적이거나 인공적으로 분만하는 것을 조산이라고 하며, 그 결과 태어난 아이를 조산아라고 말한다. WHO에서는 28~37주에 태어난 아기라고 정의하고 있다. 현재 생존가능 한계는 의료기술의 진보에 의해 그 한계역이 넓혀지고 있다. 조산아의 대부분은 저체중아(2,500g 이하)로 출생하기 때문에 각 장기기능이 충분하게 성숙되어 있지 않아 생후에 호흡, 간, 콩팥 등의 기능장애를 발생하는 일이 많다. 보육기에 의한 관리가 필요한 경우도 있다. 어리거나 나이 많은 임부의 초산에 많다. |

| 설명 | 분만 직후부터 독립된 자궁의 생활을 할 수 있는 능력을 획득할 때까지의 아이. 신생아는 생후 4주일까지를 말한다. 이 기간에 신생아는 모체의 태 안에서 자동적으로 산소나 영양을 받고 있던 상태에서 자력으로 호흡이나 영양 섭취를 하게 되는 급격한 변화가 일어나고, 이에 따라서 초기의 체온의 강하, 생리적 체중의 감소, 신생아황달, 탯줄의 탈락 등의 여러 현상이 일어난다. 감각면에서는 영양 섭취를 위한 흡인반사는 잘 발달되어 있으나, 미각은 대강의 맛의 판별, 후각은 강한 악취에 대한 반응, 시각은 명암을 판별하는 정도이며, 청각은 생후 1주일경까지는 거의 반응을 나타내지 않는다. |

| 설명 | 한 살 이하의 건강한 아기가 아무런 조짐이나 원인 없이 갑자기 사망했을 경우에 내리는 진단이다. 이 증후군은 생후 1~4개월 사이에 가장 많이 발생하며, 대부분 밤 10시에서 오전 10시 사이에 발생한다. 조산하거나 부모가 흡연자일 경우, 20세 이하 산모의 초산, 임신전 건강관리에 소홀한 산모에게서 태어난 영아에게서 많이 발생한다. 이 증후군으로 사망한 영아의 형제일 경우 일반적인 영아보다 걸릴 확률이 높은 것으로 알려져 있다. |

| sudden infant death syndrome | <syndrome> May affect infants of any age, but some risk factors have been identified: term infants who have had a life-threatening period of apnoea (not breathing), premature infants of low birth weight, siblings of infants who have succumbed to sudden infant death syndrome and infants of substance abusing mothers. Peak age is at 2.5 months and 4 months, but can range from 1 month to 1 year. High risk infants should have home monitoring done.
