| retinal blood vessels | The blood vasculature of the retina, including the branches and tributaries of the central retinal artery and vein, respectively, and the vascular circle of the optic nerve. Synonym: vasa sanguinea retinae. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| retinal vessels | <ophthalmology> The vessels which supply and drain the retina. (12 Dec 1998) |
| mesenteric vessels | <anatomy> Those arteries and veins that supply the small and large intestines. (27 Sep 1997) |
| great vessels | <radiology> 5 vessels above aortic arch R BCV L BCV right and left brachiocephalic VEINS L CCA left common carotid artery R BCA L SCA right brachiocephalic artery left subclavian artery (12 Dec 1998) |
| coronary vessels | The veins and arteries of the heart. (12 Dec 1998) |
| corrected transposition of the great vessels | Anatomically or physiologically corrected malposition of the great arteries. In anatomically corrected transposition, they arise from the correct ventricles but have an abnormal relation to each other (actually a malposition rather than a transposition.) In physiologically or functionally corrected transposition, the aorta arises from a systemic ventricle that has the morphologic characteristics of a right ventricle, and the pulmonary artery arises from a "venous" ventricle that has the morphologic characteristics of a left ventricle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sheaths of vessels | Fibrous envelopes ensheathing the arteries with their accompanying veins and sometimes nerves as well. Synonym: sheaths of vessels, vaginae vasorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| transposition of great vessels | <embryology> A congenital cardiovascular malformation in which the aorta arises entirely from the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery from the left ventricle, so that the venous return from the peripheral circulation is recirculated by the right ventricle via the aorta to the systemic circulation without being oxygenated in the lungs. There is an intracardiac shunt, increased pulmonary vascularity, cyanosis. The chest X-ray shows that the heart size may be normal at birth, but it gradually enlarges with a globular or egg-on-its-side appearance. (27 Jun 1999) |
| transposition of the great vessels | Congenital malformation in which the aorta arises from the morphologic right ventricle and the pulmonary artery from the morphologic left ventricle resulting in two separate and parallel circulations. The condition is lethal unless some communication exists between the systemic and pulmonic circulation after birth; otherwise, unoxygenated venous blood inappropriately enters the systemic circulation, and oxygenated pulmonary venous blood is inappropriately directed to the pulmonary circulation. The life sustaining communication may be an intra-atrial passage or a patent ductus arteriosus. Synonym: transposition of arterial stems. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lymphatic vessels | The vessels that convey the lymph; they anastomose freely with each other. Synonym: vasa lymphatica, absorbent vessels, lymphatic vessels, lymphatics. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lymph vessels | The vessels that convey the lymph; they anastomose freely with each other. Synonym: vasa lymphatica, absorbent vessels, lymphatic vessels, lymphatics. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior cerebral artery | <anatomy, artery> One of the two terminal branches (with middle cerebral artery) of the internal carotid; it passes anterior, loops around the genu of the corpus callosum then posteriorly in the interhemispheric fissure along with its fellow of the opposite side, the two being joined by the anterior communicating artery; for descriptive purposes it is divided into two parts: the precommunical part (A2 segment of clinical terminology), supplying branches to the thalamus and corpus striatum, and the postcommunical part, (A2) or pericallosal artery, supplying branches to the cortex of the medial parts of the frontal and parietal lobes. Synonym: arteria cerebri anterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior cerebral vein | <anatomy, vein> A small vein that parallels the anterior cerebral artery and drains into the basal vein. Synonym: vena cerebri anterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteries of cerebral haemorrhage | Numerous small branches from the sphenoidal part of the middle cerebral arteries supplying the lateral and anterior parts of the corpus striatum. Synonym: arteriae centrales anterolaterales, arteriae thalamostriatae anterolaterales, anterolateral central arteries, anterolateral striate arteries, anterolateral thalamostriate arteries, arteries of cerebral haemorrhage, lenticulostriate arteries. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ganglionic layer of cerebral cortex | Layer 5 of the cortex cerebri. (05 Mar 2000) |
