Synonym: nodus ligamenti arteriosi, lymph node of ligamentum arteriosum.
(05 Mar 2000)
node of Ranvier <anatomy, physiology> A region of exposed neuronal plasma membrane in a myelinated axon. Nodes contain very high concentrations of voltage gated ion channels and are the site of propagation of action potentials by saltatory conduction.
(18 Nov 1997)
node of Rouviere One of the lateral group of retropharyngeal lymph nodes.
See: retropharyngeal lymph nodes.
(05 Mar 2000)
node, av Atrioventricular node. Specialised heart tissue which acts as an electrical relay station between the upper chambers of the heart (atria) and the lower chambers of the heart (ventricles). Electrical signals from the sinoatrial (sa) node and the atria must pass through the av node to reach the ventricles.
(12 Dec 1998)
node, sa Sinoatrial node. The pacemaker of the heart, located in the right atrium (upper chamber of the heart). The electrical signals initiated in the sa node are transmitted throuhg the atria and the ventricles to stimulate heart muscle contractions (heartbeats).
(12 Dec 1998)
nodi Plural of nodus.
Origin: L.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici abdominis viscerales The numerous lymph nodes receiving lymph from abdominal organs located in association with the visceral branches of the aorta.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici abdominis viscerales.

nodi lymphatici anorectales An alternate term for pararectal lymph nodes.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici appendiculares Nodes along the appendicular vessels in the mesoappendix; they receive afferent vessels from the vermiform appendix and send efferent vessels to the ileocolic lymph nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici appendiculares.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici axillares Numerous nodes around the axillary veins which receive the lymphatic drainage from the upper limb, scapular region and pectoral region (including mammary gland); they drain into the subclavian trunk.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici axillares, axillary glands.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici axillares apicales The group of lymph node's located at the apex of the axillary fossa that receive lymphatic drainage from other groups of axillary node's and then drain in turn into the subclavian lymphatic trunk.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici axillares apicales.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici axillares subscapulares Node's of the axillary region located along the subscapular vein and its tributaries; they receive afferent vessels from the dorsal surface of the thorax and scapular region, and send efferent vessels to the central group of lymph nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici axillares subscapulares, posterior group of axillary lymph nodes.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici axillaris pectorales Lymph nodes located along the lateral thoracic vein; they receive the drainage of the pectoral region, including most of the drainage of the breast.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici axillaris pectorales, anterior group of axillary lymph nodes.
(05 Mar 2000)
nodi lymphatici brachiales Lymph nodes along the brachial vein that receive lymph drainage from most of the free superior limb and send efferent vessels to the central group of axillary lymph nodes.
Synonym: nodi lymphatici brachiales, brachial lymph nodes.
