MTD Moving Target Detection A filtering method to improve visibility of aircraft in ATC radar systems. Works on the basis that aircraft move and mountains don't. Moving objects impart a Doppler frequency shift on the radar signal; by rejecting signals that have no Doppler shift, some clutter can be removed from the radar display. Unfortunately only radial velocity has this effect, so aircraft moving at a tangent to the radar centre are also removed, as are helicopters. ...
