(1843-1910) German bacteriologist. In 1882 he discovered the bacillus of tuberculosis, and a little later the bacilli of cholera and phthisis. Tuberculin, or the body lymph cure for tuberculosis, was another of Koch's discoveries. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1905. [RE]
