  • Drosophila melanogaster - »õâ A species of fruit fly much used in genetics because of the large size of its chromosomes.
    Synonyms :
  • Drosophila Proteins - »õâ Proteins that originate from insect species belonging to the genus DROSOPHILA. The proteins from the most intensely studied species of Drosophila, DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER, are the subject of much interest in the area of MORPHOGENESIS and development.
    Synonyms :
  • Drosophilidae - »õâ A family of the order DIPTERA. These flies are generally found around decaying vegetation and fruit. Several species, because of their short life span, giant salivary gland chromosomes, and ease of culturing, have been used extensively in studies of heredity.
    Synonyms :
  • Drowning - »õâ Death that occurs as a result of anoxia or heart arrest, associated with immersion in liquid.
    Synonyms : Drownings
  • Droxidopa - »õâ A precursor of noradrenaline that is used in the treatment of parkinsonism. The racemic form (DL-threo-3,4-dihydroxyphenylserine) has also been used, and has been investigated in the treatment of orthostatic hypotension. There is a deficit of noradrenaline as well as of dopamine in Parkinson's disease and it has been proposed that this underlies the sudden transient freezing seen usually in advanced disease. Administration of DL-threo-3,4-dihydroxyphenylserine has been claimed to result in an improvement in this phenomenon but controlled studies have failed to demonstrate improvement.
