  • Cyanobacteria - »õâ A phylum of oxygenic photosynthetic bacteria comprised of unicellular to multicellular bacteria possessing CHLOROPHYLL a and carrying out oxygenic PHOTOSYNTHESIS. Cyanobacteria are the only known organisms capable of fixing both CARBON DIOXIDE (in the presence of light) and NITROGEN. Cell morphology can include nitrogen-fixing heterocysts and/or resting cells called akinetes. Formerly called blue-green algae, cyanobacteria were traditionally treated as ALGAE.
Synonyms : Algae, Blue Green, Bacteria, Blue Green, Bacteria, Blue-Green, Blue Green Algae, Blue Green Bacteria, Blue-Green Algae
  • Cyanogen Bromide - »õâ Cyanogen bromide (CNBr). A compound used in molecular biology to digest some proteins and as a coupling reagent for phosphoroamidate or pyrophosphate internucleotide bonds in DNA duplexes.
    Synonyms : Bromide, Cyanogen
  • Cyanoketone - »õâ 2 alpha-Cyano-17 beta-hydroxy-4,4',17 alpha-trimethylandrost-5-ene-3-one. An androstenolone-nitrile compound with steroidogenesis-blocking activity.
    Synonyms :
  • Cyanophora - »õâ A genus of primitive ALGAE in the family Cyanophoraceae, class Glaucocystophyceae. They contain pigmented prokaryotic endosymbionts called cyanelles, which have characteristics of both CYANOBACTERIA and CHLOROPLASTS.
Synonyms : Cyanophora paradoxa, Cyanophora paradoxas, Cyanophoras, paradoxa, Cyanophora, paradoxas, Cyanophora
  • Cyanosis - »õâ A bluish or purplish discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes due to an increase in the amount of deoxygenated hemoglobin in the blood or a structural defect in the hemoglobin molecule.
