| C1 i. |
an α2-globulin of the serpin family that inhibits the complement component C1 (see under complement), binding the complex of C1r and C1s, removing it from C1q and preventing activation of the classical complement pathway. It also inhibits plasmin, thrombin, and kallikrein. Deficiency of or defect in the protein causes hereditary angioedema.

| C1q |
a six-subunit molecule, comprising 18 polypeptide chains, having the shape of six parallel rods flaring apart from each other at one end to terminate in a flower bunch arrangement, the globular head of each rod resembling a tulip; binding of the heads to IgM or IgG initiates the classical complement pathway, which continues by binding of two molecules each of C1r and C1s by C1q.
