| esophagocardiomyotomy |
incision of the muscular coats of the esophagus and cardiac part of the stomach performed for relief of achalasia of the esophagus. The original procedure involved a myotomy on both anterior and posterior walls of the esophagus; in the currently used modification, only an extramucosal anterior myotomy is done. Called also cardiomyotomy and Heller's cardiomyotomy, esophagomyotomy, myotomy, or operation.
