A distinct neurologic disorder suffered by late-in-the-game alcoholics, characterized by sensory confusion; part of the problem is the result of diminished myelination of nerves and decreased brain antioxidant insulation (cholesterol), with nerve impulses "shorting out" across temporary synapses.

An alluvial deposit at the mouth of a river or tidal inlet. Deltas occur when a sediment-laden current enters an open body of water, at which point there is a reduction in the velocity of the current, resulting in rapid deposition of the sediment, as at the mouth of a river where the river discharges into the sea or a lake.
