the widespread and persistent, sometimes for decades, dissemination of verruca plana associated with a tendency to malignant degeneration. It typically begins in early childhood with the development of flat-topped papules, varying in color from pink and flesh to gray or brown, which increase in number and coalesce to form large plaques, especially on the knees, elbows, and trunk. Familial occurrence, parental consanguinity, and mental retardation are often associated with the disorder. Called also Lewandowsky-Lutz disease.

a form of epidermolysis bullosa primarily confined to the hands and feet, especially the palms and soles, appearing in infancy or later life, and often associated with hyperhidrosis. It may be exacerbated by unusual trauma such as prolonged walking. Called also Weber-Cockayne syndrome.

| e. bullosa, acquired |
a form of epidermolysis bullosa presenting in adulthood with evidence of genetic transmission, and occurring in association with such diseases as diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, amyloidosis, colitis, and multiple myeloma and with penicillamine therapy. The blisters, which occur most often on the pressure areas of the hands and feet but can occur anywhere on the body, heal leaving atrophic scars and milia; nail dystrophy and lesions of the oral mucosa are often seen. There is evidence of deposition of immunoglobulin on the dermal side of the dermal-epidermal basement membrane.
