blood-brain barrier Blood vessels in the brain do not let large molecules pass through, making it difficult to provide treatment to neural tissues. Endothelial cells (capillaries and venules) create a seal by unusually tight junctions between cells and form the blood brain barrier. This barrier prevents water soluble molecules from passing into brain tissue unless they are specifically carried by transport proteins.
