Published 'The Elementary Structures of Kinship' (1949) arguing that the ties of kinship and marriage is a basis for social organisation. An elementary structure is one which divides people into those a person can marry and those he or she cannot. Rules of marriage have the effect of bonding a cohesive social structure. ...
